WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS  

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Students credited with this unit standard can identify and describe legislative rights and responsibilities for workplace health and safety; describe the systems approach to workplace health and safety; explain how risks and hazards are defined in the HSWA.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES:

​

At the completion of the course you will be able to:

​

  • Identify and describe legislative rights and responsibilities for workplace health and safety.

  • Describe the responsibilities of PCBU and workers under the HSWA and the worker's rights under the HSWA.

  • Describe the systems approach to workplace health and safety.

  • Explain how risks and hazards are defined in the HSWA.

  • Describe each principle of the risk assessment process in terms of workplace health and safety.

  • Identify and apply methods to control (hierarchy of controls) risk in the workplace in terms of elimination and minimising risks.

Numeracy and Literacy: All students must have the ability to write, speak and understand basic English to complete the assessments.
