FIRST AID LEVEL 2 (NEW ZEALAND FIRST AID CERTIFICATE)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

People credited with this course are able to manage first aid in an emergency, assess situational hazards on scene and mitigate risks to self and others. This course teaches you to evaluate and manage two or more people having a need for first aid during an emergency situation by comprehensive scenario based training that could be tailored to workplace situations.  

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Overview of Legislative relating to first aid consent and accidents in the workplace

  • Provide immediate bystander First Aid and Basic Life Support (CPR) for adult, child or infant if needed.

  • Manage two persons in need of First Aid at an accident scene

  • Supports the person to relieve an airway obstruction (Choking) adult, child or infant

  • Demonstrate the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Assess and manage a collapsed person’s condition and shock

  • Approach of an accident scene relating to accidents in the workplace

  • Demonstrate and apply the primary survey assessment (DRSABCD algorithm)

  • Manage trauma conditions – bleeding, burns, fractures, dislocations or sprains.

  • Manage medical condition - heart attack, asthma, stroke, seizures or diabetes

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the emergency rescue plan to be activated in the event of a fall

ENTRY CRITERIA:

Numeracy and Literacy: All students must have the ability to write, speak and understand basic English to complete the assessments.

Students must be able to kneel on the floor to perform CPR functions. If you have students with physical limitations, please contact us to discuss.

Prerequisites for Unit 6400, (Unit 6402 and Unit 6401 - (Attained first during the course in order of 6402 then 6401)
