MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS COURSE

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Effectively overseeing mental health is fundamental for fostering strong employee engagement and yielding advantages for all stakeholders – including employees, employers, and financial performance. Prioritising the mental well-being of your workforce leads to heightened engagement, increased staff morale and loyalty, enhanced innovation, productivity, and ultimately, improved profitability.

 

(This course serves solely to gain more knowledge on mental health and is not a replacement for professional medical guidance. Participants are advised to seek consultation from a healthcare professional for any medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment they may require.)

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Explain what mental health is and WorkSafe NZ role towards mental health in the Workplace.

  • Explain key terminology stress, depression, anxiety, toxic environments, workplace bullying, psychosis and substance use/abuse.

  • Understand the different types of mental illness and symptoms and the risk factors that contribute to mental illness in the workplace and at home.

  • How to manage and prevent mental health in the workplace (targeted at leaders and manager) What does the law require from the PCBU

  • What are the rights of employees?

  • How to recognise the common risk factors and warning signs (symptoms) of mental health and how to provide support.

  • The Five Ways to Wellbeing are: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give

  • Understand Mental health first Aid

NZQA UNITS:

No units are attached to this course. This course follows content guidelines and best practice guidelines for mental health in NZ.

Numeracy and Literacy: All students must have the ability to write, speak and understand basic English to complete the assessments.
